The Importance of Our Pre-Recorded Doula Trainings and Courses

Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings is committed to offering accessible, socially conscious, culturally appropriate, diverse, and action-oriented courses. We have a robust and ever-growing course catalog to support you in building your birth worker practice – check it out here!

Our library of offerings includes pre-recorded trainings and continuing education courses, as we wish to offer on-demand learning experiences that bring the BADT curriculum to folks who need or want flexible, self-paced learning experiences. Accessibility is an imperfect and ever expanding practice and recorded courses is one way we seek to meet diverse learning needs.

These pre-recorded offerings are available for purchase anytime, so you don’t have to wait for enrollment in one of our live cohorts to get started. Our pre-recorded offerings are also available at a slightly lower price point than our live offerings, and you still get all the perks of being a BADT community member, aside from the live classes. These perks include access to our private community app, and for our 12-week trainings, a free listing on the BADT Birthworker directory

Who Takes Pre-Recorded Classes?

One of the primary benefits of the pre-recorded learning format is that there’s no pressure to attend live sessions or move through the content at any particular pace. Students can set their own schedule for watching classes, reading through resources, and working on reflective assignments. We encourage our students to be gentle with themselves, and to move through the content at a pace that is supportive to their learning, and their life.

People who have appreciated pre-recorded offerings in the past include folks who are:

  • Students

  • Parents

  • Working full-time

  • Looking to transition to a new career or add an additional income source

  • Disabled and neurodivergent

  • Excited about a particular training and want to get started before the next live class begins

What Do I Need to Know About Pre-Recorded Classes?

  • Teachers: Each course features different BADT core teachers + guest teachers. We are always proud to feature teachers who are leaders in their fields and who live out BADT values. Check each course’s description to get familiar with the teachers you’ll be learning from.

  • Content: As always, our content strives to be expansive, inclusive, and anti-oppressive. This means that all of our courses examine not only the physiological aspects of the topic at hand, but also the current social, legal, and political context in which this work takes place. As an organization and as individuals, we are always growing, and the social context of these issues is always changing. Thus, we update course material and language regularly to reflect this growth overtime.

  • Time Commitment: Classes for our 4 and 12-week courses are approximately 75-90 minutes per session. Weekend workshops and other trainings that do not follow these formats will always have hours specified.

  • Access Deadlines: You have one year to work with the materials included in BADT classes. For our 12-week certifying trainings, one six-month extension can be granted - because life happens!

  • Financial Commitment: We do not offer refunds or reimbursements once you enroll, and encourage you to budget accordingly. If life circumstances prevent you from participating in the course as planned, we are happy to extend your enrollment or adjust as needed. You can make this request by emailing our team.

How Will I Connect with BADT Community?

Over time, we’ve seen that BADT learners are excited to connect with like-minded folks. Every student enrolled in a pre-recorded course is added to a course-specific group on our community app.  Additionally, you will be added to the wider BADT community space, where you can connect with students in all BADT courses. These spaces allow participants to connect with others, process their learnings and curiosities, seek support, network, and build community.

BADT participants are exceptional at building systems of accountability and support. We’ve seen folks develop partnerships for coworking, birthworker processing spaces, long-distance careworker collectives, and so much more. All of this to say, we are confident that you will be able to connect with other BADT learners if this is important to you.

Additionally, if online community is totally your thing, once you’ve been a BADT program participant, you’ll have the option to join our BADT+ membership, which is a container for ongoing learning, community, and processing.
