Facilitating Childbirth Education with a Curriculum

BADT’s values informed our decision to create a curriculum for childbirth educators. Given our philosophy about facilitation, we want to support and uplift educators by providing you with an array of tools that can support co-created learning experiences in your communities.

Our Complete Curriculum for Childbirth Educators is designed to give both new and experienced educators the tools and frameworks to approach the delivery of childbirth education with an advocacy-based lens. Anyone can purchase and use this product; you do not need to have taken a class with BADT or hold a certification as a Childbirth Educator.

Together, we have created a product that highlights a great deal of lived experience, research, and applied knowledge. Educators deserve access to quality and relevant resources that allow them to be present in their facilitation without constantly starting from scratch to build their teaching materials. The Complete Curriculum for Childbirth Educators can be the foundation that you build your teaching experience around.

BADT's team of industry experts and experienced educators developed a curriculum that is both comprehensive and flexible. The Complete Curriculum for Childbirth Educators bundle includes everything you need to teach either a weekend intensive or a four week series childbirth education course. It includes the following materials:

  • Slide decks to use as visual aids while teaching.

  • Companion guides to give facilitators confidence in their teaching skills! The companion guides offer additional teaching points, as well as activity suggestions, reminders to reflect on personal bias, and concrete tips on how to manage group time and dynamics.

  • Teacher resources to help you plan and reflect on classes, with emphasis on accessibility, engaging different learners, and integrating trauma-informed education practices.

  • Student handouts to provide to participants.

  • Marketing templates to help you promote offerings.

You know your communities best, and we value the ways you bring these insights into your offerings! You can edit the majority of the above components to include your own logo, content, and change language and/or add/omit information to best reflect your communities.  You can also purchase select items from the Complete Curriculum on their own so that you are tailoring your materials to your needs.

Let’s Talk About Facilitation

BADT has been training Childbirth Educators since 2020, and it’s one of our core offerings, right alongside the full-spectrum doula training. If you’ve been a BADT student, you know that we care deeply about facilitating learning in accessible and diverse ways. We aim to share information in a wide range of formats, incorporate Q and A sessions throughout the course, create ongoing containers (like our app) for continued learning and community building, and so on. This blog talks all about how we are doing things differently than mainstream education.

For BADT, facilitation is a dynamic, ever-evolving process that is co-created between facilitator(s) and learners. This co-creation means that as facilitators, you approach your work from a place of openness and awareness of the communities you are serving and connected to. You initiate your work knowing the intricacies of your own identities and social location, and you hold space for students to show up as whole people and with their own unique gifts, needs, skills, and curiosities. When we talk about facilitation, we are imagining the process of preparation and studying all the way through teaching and debriefing.

Additionally, facilitation involves ethically curating and sharing resources that uplift the work already happening in our communities so that participants can confidently move through their own learning processes feeling supported and witnessed. At BADT, our hope is that through a shared facilitation process– one we model, and one we offer to CBE teachers– everyone grows into themselves, their autonomy and their knowledge of available options.

What CBE Teachers Are Saying

It took a full year for the BADT team to put this product together. The process emerged organically, playing on each team member’s strengths and areas of expertise, making it one of the most comprehensive childbirth educator curricula that we have seen. Additionally, we offered small “sneak peaks'' to members of our community and incorporated their feedback on topics ranging from structure to content. Because of this collaborative process, we are confident that this curriculum includes ample support to get your childbirth education course off the ground smoothly. That said, we are excited to share some words from folks who have already purchased the Complete Curriculum for Childbirth Educators:

“As someone who is new to childbirth education, this curriculum is incredible. Well researched, easily usable, and aligned with my values of creating education spaces inclusive to all parents, this is an absolutely amazing resource. What an amazing way to get to share some of what I love about BADT courses with people participating in classes I get to lead!”

- Zoë

“This curriculum is so thoughtfully designed. It provides a roadmap to create a CBE course that is supportive and inclusive of all humans that feels as grounded, supportive and well researched as the BADT programs themselves. I can see this will help me launch my program without the barrier of creating my program with the blind spots and learning curve starting from scratch entails. The illustrations are beautiful, and inclusive. The intake form helped inform the questions I ask families for many of the programs I offer. I am so grateful to the team that developed this! Thank you for helping me walk the walk moving the work of Reproductive Justice forward.”
